Many dogs and cats develop unsightly reddish brown stains below the inside corner of their eyes. These stains will commonly spread to the muzzle and feet as well. The staining is initiated by excessive tearing (Epiphora), an abnormal overflow of tears. Epiphora results from either an overproduction of tears that the normal drainage system is unable to handle and / or obstructions to the drainage system.

Epiphora is a breeding ground for bacteria growth (Ptyrosporin). If not properly addressed, the bacteria will cause staining on many different dog and Persian cats.
